The 3rd round of the Danish Championships was held on Sunday, December 4, 2005, in Broendby, just outside Copenhagen. The track is a permanent indoor track, and hosts 6 races during the winter season. Five of the races are for a local series (open for everyone), three are for the Danish Championships, and one race is part of another championship.

In the Modified class, the qualifying was a battle between Tamiya team driver Steen Graversen and XRAY drivers Søren Boy Holst and Michael Præst. Steen was the fastest of the 3 top drivers after the first round, followed by Michael and myself. Steen set a new track record in the second round, and I made my personal best both on lap times and total over 5 minutes. The TQ driver turned out to be Steen, followed by Søren, Michael, Martin Lissau and Pelle Martin.

In the first final, Steen took the lead from the pole, with me close behind. Michael made a mistake at the start, so there was a bit of a gap between the two frontrunners and the rest of the pack. This was big luck for me, since I was late on the charging and had to conserve power. I kept my eyes on Michael in third place, and cruised the car home, saving as much power as possible.

In the second final, Steen once again took the lead from the pole, again followed very closely by me. I had to be very careful not to hit Steen, but after 3 laps he started to open a gap. Michael was once again in third place, so everything was looking good for me, until the speaker announced that car no.2 didn’t have a transponder in the car – D’oh! Stupid mistake… I finished comfortably in second again, but of course my result was deleted since I forgot the transponder; Michael was awarded second place.

This made the last final very exciting. Steen already won the race with two first places, but the fight for second and third place was completely open. Steen was once again a bit slow in the start, so I could stay very close for the first couple of laps, but after that he pulled away from me. Michael made some mistakes down the field, and had to retire at the end with an overheated ESC. Lucky for him, he could keep the overall third place.

My car felt really good, with good steering and was very easy to drive. I just needed a little more power compared to some of the other fast guys, but all in all I was very satisfied with the race.
